THE 2019 GENERAL MINIMUM WAGE.

On December 17, 2018, the National Minimum Wage Commission (CONASAMI for its Spanish acronym), by tripartite and unanimous ruling of its members, announced that as of January 1^st, 2019, the general minimum wage will be increased to Mx$102.68 a day.

The increase was calculated by adding Mx$9.43 to the current minimum daily wage (Mx$88.36) based on the so-called independent recovery amount (MIR for its Spanish acronym), and applying to the resulting amount ($97.79), an advanced increase of 5% for the year 2019M; thus, the total increase is 16.2% over the current amount.

Also, CONASAMI approved a 5% increase on the occupational minimum wages currently in effect, and the new wage amounts will depend on the increase to be made to each occupation listed by CONASAMI.

Furthermore, a daily minimum wage applicable to Mexico’s Northern Border Duty-Free Zone (ZLFN for its Spanish acronym), comprising the municipalities located within a 25 kilometers strip of land south of the Mexico-U.S. border and some adjacent municipalities was approved to Mx$176.72, representing a 100% increase over the current 2018 minimum wage.

For the occupational minimum wages in such border area, the daily wage amounts will be equalized to Mx$176.72, except for two categories of news reporters.
