THE UNITED STATES-MEXICO-CANADA AGREEMENT (USMCA) WILL ENTER INTO FORCE ON JULY 1, 2020.

Mexico City, April 30th, 2020.

 

Last April 24th, United States notified Mexico and Canada that its domestic procedures to implement the USMCA had been completed. With this, the United States became the third country to perform such diligence, completing the final step for the USMCA to enter into force.

 

In accordance with paragraph 2 of the Protocol Replacing the North American Free Trade Agreement with the USMCA, the Agreement shall enter into force on the first day of the third month following the last notification, which means that the Agreement will enter into force on July 1, 2020.

 

The USMCA’s entry into force marks the beginning of a new chapter for North American trade, leading to fairer trade and economic growth for the three countries, therefore, hereinafter it is important to anticipate and fulfill the new requirements and formalities to have access to the benefits established in the new incorporated Chapters.
